Glossary and FAQ
Hey, congratualtions on making it to this FAQ/Glossary! If you came here from the "About Section" main page and skipped over the little greeting there, you'll find the exact same information here, or maybe just a little more. Anyway, a few terms to get you started:
The X-files
The show about which this web site is concerned. (Really, if you need help with this one, it might just be easier to go here.
Noromo
Abbreviation for "no romance" referring to any person who does not want the relationship of Mulder and Scully within the show to become romantic. The opposite of Shipper.
Shipper
Abbreviation for "relationshipper" referring to any person who (for whatever insane reason) does want the relationship of Mulder and Scully to become romantic.
MASHEO
Mulder and Scully Hate each other - the name of this web site and the principle upon which it is founded.
CINA
Completely Irrational Noromo Argumentation - the method of argumentation that Noromos typically leave untraversed when debating the relationship between Mulder and Scully, and the preferred method of Noromo argumentation at Masheo.
Board
A message board (sometimes called a discussion board, or bulletin board) -- a place where one can "post" comments, read other's comments and post responses etc. On this site, it usually refers to the Masheo Discussion Board (formerly the Masheo Discussion Arena) although may refer to other boards contextually.
Pookie
Any number of unintentional mistakes related to posting messages on a message board, including posting a message more than once, posting an incomplete message etc.
Gerry
The nickname of The X-files' official message board. Typically inundated with shippers, but recently the target of a noromo resurgence.
Oh my God! How can you think that they hate each other?!?!?
(and a wide assortment of related questions)
We don't. And let me repeat that for those who didn't catch that. We don't. And let me spell it out for anyone still left confused. We don't believe that Mulder and Scully hate each other. If you have sincerely asked any version of the above question, I need now to introduce you to cute little word called satire:
satire (sat*ire) noun.
- a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn
- trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly
It's a humorous thing you see. We go to an absurd extreme to show how absurd is it's opposite. Mulder and Scully hating each other to the extreme that Masheo-ites proclaim it is utterly absurd. So is the notion that they love each other to the extent that shippers proclaim it. Funny, because it's absurd. Poignant because it's true.
Clever eh? We thought so.
What's the deal with "Mad and Stupid"?
We were called mad and stupid by a shipper. It was funny. Click here for the full story.
Do you hate shippers?
If, by this question, you mean to ask whether we abhor the ideals upon which shipperdom is based, vehemently despise its unholy principles, and seek to villify and relentlessly oppose all attempts to further its infestation into phile culture, then, yes, we hate the Platonic Idea of a shipper.
Most likely, however, you're referring to whether or not we actually hate people who are shippers, and the answer to that is no. Anyone who can appreciate the humor of Masheo is welcome. In fact, Masheo has many shipper regulars. The keys here are openmindedness, respect, and fun. Anyone practicing these virtues is welcome. Violation of any of these keys will result in loss of recess privileges.
